Subject: Re: Chameleon 4.04 ??...up to their same old tricks again...
Yeah, it looks like their line is up to speed. Unfortunately,
it also looks like Netmanage is playing their old shell game
again. They placed patches in their /pub/outgoing directory,
but the files were hidden (I'm using WS_FTP and it didn't see
them before or now, but a unix box could retrieve 'em).
This, IMHO, is idiotic, no matter what party line you get
from Netmanage about "Oh, not every user needs to have these
patches -- so we're not telling you about them." Crap!
Read the README file in the patch and you'll find a ton
of bug fixes that most certainly do apply to most, if not
all, users. Sheesh!
The support from Netmanage is hideous and insulting (yesterday
I got a rude form letter response to bug reports I've been
cc-ing to them: "Maybe you should read the installation
instructions more closley and delete all extraneous WINSOCK.DLL
files from your hard disk drive"). DUH! Well, I guess I should
appreciate it that they're bothering to reply!
This is yet another reason why I'm really loking forward to
Chicago and the built-in Vxd-based (please!) TCP/IP. I'd be
using their April beta right now if I could figure out how
to _easily_ trick my PC-XWare into riding along with the MSTCP/IP.
BTW: I just checked Netmanage's directory on FTP.UU.NET and the
demo and the latest patch (V4004.EXE) is still there -- and its
actually VISIBLE!!! I recommend getting it as soon as you can
because they'll probably dicontinue this service now that
their own line is up.

Hello there,
does anybody know how I can install an ftp-server on a 286?
Is it also possible to install a gopher server on a 286?
If yes, can you tell me where I can find the appropriate software!
Thanx very much!

Does anyone know if there is some sort of guide on how to set up a SLIP
connection, specifically, to run Winsock? I'm pretty clueless.

Subject: How many bytes can you send?
Hi:
I know that I can use select() to check readability and writability for
sockets and also use ioctrlsocket() to find out how many bytes which are
currently queued for me to read without blocking.
Question:
Is it a way to check exaclty how many bytes I can write without blocking?
Thanks for any pointers.

Subject: New Chameleon Patches
I was at Networld/Interop yesterday, and I spoke to the Netmanage folks. They
told me there will be a new patch file on their bbs either Friday (today-it's
not there yet) or Monday. It is v4007. It fixes problems with TN3270. I
don't know what else it fixes because I don't seem to have other problems, and
I wanted to discuss TN3270 with them. It definitely DOES NOT fix the
newsreader issues. They told me they are rewriting news and it will be out in
a future release.
That's all.
